Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 8, 2026
Introduction
GetE85 ("we," "us," or "our") respects the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains our practices concerning your access to and use of the GetE85 website and the GetE85 mobile apps for iOS and Android (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THE SERVICE.
Changes to Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason. We encourage users to regularly review our Privacy Policy. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting the updated Privacy Policy, and we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
Information We Collect
Personal Data
We may collect personally identifiable information, such as:
- Your name and email address, provided when you create an account or supplied by Google or Apple if you sign in with them
- Precise location, described in detail below
- Payment information for premium features, handled by Stripe
- User-submitted E85 station information, and updates you make to pump status or ethanol percentage
Signing in with Google or Apple
You can create an account and sign in with Google or with Apple, on the website and in the mobile apps. We never see or store your Google or Apple password. Instead the provider gives your device a signed token, which we verify with the provider's public keys.
From Google we receive your name, email address and profile image. From Apple we receive an email address and, on your first sign-in only, your name. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", the address we receive is a private relay address ending in privaterelay.appleid.com rather than your real one; mail we send is forwarded by Apple and we never learn the address behind it.
In both cases we also store the permanent, app-specific account identifier the provider assigns you, so we can recognise you on your next sign-in even if the email address you share with us changes.
Linking accounts. If you sign in with a provider and the email address it gives us is one the provider has verified and that already belongs to a GetE85 account, we add that sign-in method to the existing account rather than creating a second one. This means one account can be reached with a password, with Google and with Apple. We only do this when the provider confirms the address is verified. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", the relay address will not match your existing account, and you will get a separate account.
Location Data
With your permission, the website and the mobile apps use your device's precise location to show E85 stations near you and to plan routes. On mobile this is requested as "while using the app" access only; the apps do not collect your location in the background.
We store your most recently known coordinates and the US state derived from them on your account, so the map can open in the right place next time. You can revoke location access at any time in your browser or device settings, which stops any further collection. The rest of the Service continues to work; you will need to search for a place instead.
Community Contributions
GetE85 station data is community driven. When you report a pump as working or not working, or update an ethanol percentage, we record that the change came from your account so we can prevent abuse and enforce rate limits. This attribution is internal. It is not shown to other users and is not returned by our public station endpoints.
Automatically Collected Data
Our servers automatically collect certain information when you access the Service, including:
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Access times
- Pages viewed
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Provide and improve our E85 station finding services
- Process payments for premium features
- Verify and display user-submitted station information
- Send service-related communications, such as account confirmation, password resets and security notices
- Send occasional product updates and news about GetE85, if you have not opted out
- Monitor reliability and performance so we can keep the Service running
- Protect against unauthorized access and abuse
We do not use your personal information to build advertising profiles, and we do not run behavioural analytics on your use of the Service.
Email You Receive From Us
Everyone with an account receives service email: account confirmation, password resets, account unlock notices and similar. These are necessary to operate your account and cannot be turned off while the account exists.
We may also send product update email — new features and news about GetE85. Every such message includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly and does not affect your account or the service email above. You can also ask us to stop at [email protected].
We do not sell or rent your email address, and we do not share it with advertising platforms or data brokers.
Third Party Services
We share the minimum data necessary with the following providers. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Mapbox — place search and driving directions. Search terms and the coordinates involved are sent to Mapbox to return results. On mobile these requests are proxied through our servers rather than sent directly from your device.
- Stripe — payment processing for premium features. Card details go to Stripe directly and are never stored on our servers.
- Postmark — delivery of the email described above, both service email and product updates.
- Better Stack — server log storage, used for debugging and abuse prevention. Logs include IP addresses and request paths.
- Google — optional "Sign in with Google" on the website and in the mobile apps. If you use it, Google provides us your name, email address and profile image, and Google's own privacy policy governs your interaction with them.
- Apple — optional "Sign in with Apple" in the iOS app. If you use it, Apple provides us an email address, or a private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email", and your name the first time only.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists.
You can permanently delete your account at any time. In the mobile apps, open the Account tab and choose "Delete account". On the website, or if you would rather we do it for you, email [email protected]. Our account deletion page walks through both routes step by step.
Deleting your account removes your profile, your saved trips, your sign-in credentials and any active API tokens, and cancels any active subscription. Any station submissions you filed that are still in the review queue are deleted with the account.
Corrections you made to existing stations — pump status and ethanol percentage — remain part of the community data set, because other drivers rely on them, but they are no longer linked to you: your email address is removed from those records.
If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to revoke the sign-in, so GetE85 stops appearing under Settings › your name › Sign in with Apple on your devices.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
Data Protection and Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal information
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information, or delete your account yourself as described above
- Opt out of product update email, using the unsubscribe link in any such message or by emailing us
To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information below.
Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
